About project:

Guidelines for the Design and Siting of Residential Buildings in the Municipality of Cerknica

With this guide, we aim to help investors and designers understand the Municipal Spatial Plan and to guide development in a way that preserves and strengthens the spatial identity.

The guide presents, through photographs, examples of well-renovated buildings and new developments that demonstrate how modern and high-quality living environments can be created while respecting characteristic architectural and settlement patterns and responding appropriately to the local context. Illustrations and sketches are used to show appropriate and inappropriate forms and approaches to the design and construction of individual building elements.

The guide is divided into three parts:

  1. The first part describes the characteristics of the landscapes and settlements of the Municipality of Cerknica and explains why these characteristics should be taken into account in order to preserve the area’s spatial identity.
  2. The second part provides recommendations for the construction and renovation of buildings.
  3. The third part provides additional information for owners and investors undertaking new construction, renovation and maintenance works, as well as for interventions affecting built cultural heritage.
