About project:

The project addresses flooding from three interrelated aspects: dynamics of water and related processes, settlement structure and spatial development, as well as dwelling. The key issue is to find out whether they have any interrelated influence s and how they manifest in physical space. Planinsko polje has been selected as a case study, examined via there interrelated scopes: hydrogeological module, urban planning module and user-oriented module. The project aims towards linkage among these modules to form a comprehensive model. Such model will address flooding rather complex and by this contributes to awareness raising for responsive planning as well as dwelling in areas significant for flooding. The purpose of the project is to develop and test an integral system of flood sustainable spatial planning and required measures. The assumptions are that: living is a main activity in a space; a simulation model is a practical and useful tool for flood prediction and warning; and that it is crucial when forming such a model to equally consider natural characteristics as well as manmade interventions in the environment. The aim is to set up a spatial simulation model which will simultaneously consider influences of man dwelling and underground water dynamics. It will be achieved by: 1. setting up a hydrogeological module, urban planning and user-centred module, including gathering the appropriate input data for each module; 2. development and application of the integral model for simulation and valuation of floods and their influences, based on the proposed modules; and 3. setting up starting points, criteria and measures for flood sustainable planning.
